Upper Bound, hosted annually by the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), is Canada’s premier artificial intelligence conference. The 2026 event was held over four days (May 19–22) in Edmonton, Alberta, bringing together more than 11,000 researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and AI professionals from 22 countries to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.

On May 20, 2026, National Safety Services’ Greg Onions and Nicole Orr presented:

GenAI in Occupational Health & Safety: Bridging Productivity, Risk and Compliance

The session explored the evolving role of generative AI in Occupational Health & Safety systems, including:

  • Where AI is creating meaningful productivity gains across HSE programs and workflows.
  • The risks associated with applying AI in high-consequence environments without appropriate controls.
  • Why occupational health and safety expertise and human oversight remain essential.
  • How organizations can responsibly integrate AI into complex operational and compliance-driven environments while maintaining quality, regulatory compliance, and worker safety.
