Hierarchy Controls

Hierarchy of Controls

This infographic explains the Hierarchy of Controls, a system used to reduce workplace hazards. It shows the most effective methods at the top, beginning with elimination of the hazard and substitution with something less hazardous. Next are engineering controls, such as guards, barriers, and ventilation, followed by administrative controls like training and procedures. At the base is personal protective equipment (PPE), which is the least effective on its own.
